“Creative consultant Helina Guleria gets inspired by her environment. Having a Indian/Dutch mixed background, she likes to provoke unusual colour combinations seen on the streets of Asia with contemporary graphical European twists.”
Work Experience
Her passion in designing all started with a print/embroidery apprenticeship under the Luxury design house Manish Arora in India. She followed this up with a coveted print/woven design job at the Lifestyle brand Tommy Hilfiger EU in Amsterdam.
Education
Helina has received her bachelor degree in Fashion at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute in 2006. During this course she was frequently found in the screen print studio where she designed placement prints and patterns in different kind of techniques, combinations and colors. In 2020, she attended a course in video producing which has a focus on visual storytelling, editing, motion graphics and compositing for moving images & stills.
Specialization
She is specialized in screen, digital, tie & dye, block printing, laser cut and engraving. Her design esthetic is seen as bold, playful and rebellious. During her apprenticeship at the Luxury design house Hussein Chalayan in London she was part of the production team; sourcing fabrics and assist in managing the studio. Following up with jobs at several companies where she was responsible for designing garments for men’s and women’s wear; from the initial sketch until final product. This includes concept development, design research, trend analysis, sourcing, fittings and Far East production trips. Her capabilities in creative art direction are translated in projects for moving images & stills.
Artist “LadyKaur”
Besides having hands-on and intense work experience in the international fashion industry, there are collaborations and projects done under the artist name “Ladykaur”. Helina uses her skills to make illustrations with spray cans & paint on different kinds of surfaces like canvas, brick walls, and wood. She has been doing international projects at events and bars like Edelwise Festival in Amsterdam and Number90Bar in London. Her work has been frequently featured by Globalstreetart who showcase street art from talent around the globe.
